Maintaining and Transmitting Living Heritage Through Indigenous Language Revitalization

This project, currently on hiatus due to Covid-19 restrictions, uses a Mentor-Apprentice Program approach to Anishinaabemowin language revitalization and pairs four fluent language speakers (traditional Elders) with four adult learners in cultural contexts such as ceremonial lodges and land-based activities. The study uses Indigenous research methodology to understand the relationship between living heritage and wellness and to understand how language reclamation can contribute to the maintenance and transmission of the Living Heritage of one Indigenous community.
