Student Travel Awards

The Humanities Research Institute makes available annually a limited amount of funding, primarily to assist students registered in humanities programs at the University of Regina to travel to give papers at refereed academic conferences. The funds are intended to help reimburse transportation, accommodation, and registration expenses. Students not enrolled in humanities programs may apply, but should make the case in their application that their paper has a strong humanities component.

HRI Student Travel Awards are each worth $500 maximum per student per annum.

Eligible students should submit to the HRI (address below) the following documentation in paper form (four copies of all material are required) by the deadline below:

1. A covering letter signed by the student describing his/her participation in the conference. This letter must contain a budget detailing the total cost, or total estimated cost, of travel, accommodation, and registration. It must also indicate all the other sources of funding that have been sought or granted. This letter must include the student’s full home address, e-mail address, and a contact phone number.

2. A copy of the conference call for registrations or conference program.

3. A copy of the student’s paper proposal submitted to the conference, or complete paper if the student has already presented.

4. A copy of the letter officially accepting the paper proposal for the conference.

5. A supporting letter from the student’s academic supervisor or head of department or graduate chair explaining the relevance of the conference to the student’s academic program.

The deadline for submission of all documentation will be October 14, 2011, for travel in calendar 2010. Only complete applications will be considered. All applications will be judged by the HRI Adjudication Committee. No travel advances will be given. Applicants should be sure to retain all original receipts of eligible expenses, as award winners will be required to supply them when applying for reimbursement.

All award winners in this program are automatically eligible for the HRI Student Essay Prize.
