Research Awards
Introduction
These awards are made available by the Humanities Research Institute to promote scholarly and creative research projects in the humanities at the University of Regina. HRI Research Awards will typically support new initiatives in humanities scholarship that will lead to publication or an equivalent public outcome. These awards may be used for all legitimate research expenses, including (but not limited to) research travel, research assistants, supplies, telephone, fax and photocopying costs. Applicants may request a maximum of $2000.
Eligibility
All full-time faculty members in probationary or continuing appointments at the University of Regina and its federated institutions, or in term positions with two years or more remaining at the University of Regina at the time of application, are eligible to apply as principal investigator for these awards. The HRI will not entertain applications to this program in any two consecutive years from the same individual. Research teams are welcome to apply for these awards; in this case, the Application Form should clearly identify the principle investigator (see below).
Application Procedures
Deadline for receipt of applications is April 9, 2012. Applications should be on the official HRI Spring 2012 Application Form, and be submitted to the HRI on or before the above deadline. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. All applications must be submitted in paper form (Four copies of all material are required) and bear the signatures of approval of each applicant’s head of department and dean (or equivalents). In the case of a research team, the signatures of all the team members on the Application Form constitute an acknowledgement of the identity of the principal investigator specified in the application. Application receipt will be acknowledged by e-mail. If your application is not acknowledged within a week, please contact the HRI Director by phone or e-mail.
Adjudication of Applications
The applications will be judged by the HRI Adjudication Committee.
Successful Applicants
Awards will normally be placed in a research account in the name of the principal investigator. Expenditures may be made only for those specific purposes authorized by the Director of the HRI. All financial claims against the account (travel reimbursement, purchase requisitions, etc.) must be signed for by the principal investigator and approved by the appropriate dean/department head. Awards will not be placed in accounts until all necessary ethical clearances have been obtained. Recipients of awards will be expected, upon completion of their project, to give a public lecture under the auspices of the HRI or participate in a relevant HRI activity. Research award funds not claimed by the end of the financial year in which the award was made will revert to the HRI. All research award funds not spent after two years from the date of the award will be returned to the HRI.
Reporting
Recipients of Research Awards must complete a project report and submit it to the Director of the HRI at the completion of the project or within two years of the date of the award. This report will describe the progress of the project for which the award was made. No further applications to the HRI will be considered until this report is received.
